My Story

I have over 20 years experience in body work.

Having qualified as a chartered Physiotherapist in 2001, I worked for the NHS at The Bristol Royal Infirmary and Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital, London and latterly for the private sector at King Edward VII's, Marylebone, London, where I also ran an Outpatient Women's Health clinic.

I was introduced to The Bowen Technique in 2006 when I was successfully treated for IBS symptoms and intermittent sciatic pain. I had previously tried every other therapy to no avail and I did not want to resort to medication. I was recommended to try Bowen and within 3 treatment sessions my symptoms had significantly improved.

I was so intrigued by this “new’, very different technique that it prompted to me to find out more about it, and shortly after I began my own training. Once qualified in 2008 I was able to use it as an adjunct to my physiotherapy whilst working at King Edward VII’s Hospital, and found it had amazing results.

In 2012, having had my 2nd child, I decided to leave Physiotherapy behind and concentrate solely on Bowen. I ran my clinic from home so I could also raise my family. We moved to Devon recently and I am now working in the calm and healing environment of Leftfield (formerly Neal's Yard) in Exeter.

I love how effective Bowen is. It amazes me every time I treat someone. I do not know of any other therapy that can help (for example) back pain, constipation, headache, anxiety and sleep disturbance at the same time!  Bowen taps into our body's innate healing system which is far more sophisticated that our conscious thought is capable of understanding, it leaves me in awe every time.

Client Review

"I came to the Bowen Technique with a typical ongoing musculo-skeletal problem: a bad back. Previously to discovering Jemma Jones I would go to a (very good) physiotherapist. But the treatment was ongoing with no resolution to my condition, demanding consequent numerous visits and expense.

After taking a full medical history, I was taken to a calm treatment room; Jemma settled me on her treatment couch and then very lightly "rolled" her fingers and thumbs over certain muscles, tendons and ligaments on my back, neck and down my legs. After a few "moves" she left the room, returning at intervals to continue the treatment.

During the treatment I was extremely relaxed and comfortable, I felt myself going into a deep state of relaxation and the tension in my muscles spontaneously released.  Following my treatment I was more thirsty than usual and quite tired. I slept very well that night. The following day my whole body ached, in a good way. And throughout the day my back ached dissipated to a wonderful pain-free state.

I have been delighted with the treatment I have received from Jemma. After years of aches and pains it is the only therapy that has worked effectively and quickly for me. Jemma is a fantastic therapist, she has an holistic approach with a very gentle manner. She listens and understands the underlying issue quickly and accurately;  and, drawing on her extensive knowledge from both her Bowen and Physiotherapy background, she gives a very thorough treatment. In the short time I have seen Jemma she has worked wonders, I cannot recommend her healing hands enough."
